Burns Night

Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,

Great chieftain o' the puddin-race!

Robbie Burns

Originally celebrated in July, by friends of Robert Burns commemorating his death, Burns Night has since been celebrated on the 25th January. The great poet's birthday is a brilliant time to embrace all things Scottish and learn about lifestyle and cultural differences from remote areas of the British Isles.

One of the most challenging and interesting UK lifestyles is that of island communities, keeping a culture alive whilst battling the elements and seasons. Freshwater's Workshop An Island Home looks at the question 'What is an island?' and thinks about how people might live there.

Join our facilitator to journey by boat to the remote Scottish Isle of Struay, explore Katie Morag’s island home before joining her family and friends in a lively ceilidh dance...

Or if you prefer to learn about the whole country... join Baxter Bear in his travels with Where in the UK is Baxter Bear

"It really helped to capture the imagination and support our learning in a fun way. An amazing experience for all the children!"
