Large Group Storytelling

Stories from Europe

Stories by Hans Christian Anderson (45 minutes, reception/KS1)

Our Storyteller will invite your children to join them in Denmark, 200 years ago, to meet Hans Christian Anderson and discover how he became one of the most adored Fairy Tellers of all time, bringing joy to people far and wide for two centuries. His stories remind us that no matter what life throws at us, we have the courage to persevere: our fortunes really can change in the blink of an eye!

The children will meet the shy Ugly Duckling, who will remind them to be welcoming of differences and kind to others; and the tiny (but huge-hearted) Thumbelina, who endures many trials and tribulations but her compassion and selflessness are rewarded in the end.

Teapot Tales (KS2)

Stories can be found all around. Old stories come to us from all across the world; they travel in books, or on boats, or on whispers in the wind. And new stories appear in small and unusual spots… Your children will be delighted by our storyteller and their characterful teapot, as they are introduced to three European folktales: The Fearsome Giant (about a young prince and his kingdom, shook when a fearsome giant moves in); The Cobblestone Maker (who searches for a more gratifying life, only to discover the value of his own); and The Cedar Tree (whose vanity and selfishness leave it broken and understanding the worth of community). Grouped for their valuable lessons, these stories contain characters’ who come to important realisations about the value of what lies deep within them.
