Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag . . .
The 8th May marks 80 years since VE Day and we’d be delighted to help you commemorate this landmark anniversary in your school. Step back in time with our immersive VE Day assembly…
One facilitator will visit your school in role as a local official tasked with overseeing the evacuation of children from the area. Using drama workshop activities such as whole group role-play, the facilitator will place your pupils in the shoes of young evacuees, as they embark on a journey from city life to the countryside.
During the assembly, pupils will practise air raid drills, pack their bags for departure, and travel by train to new homes in the countryside. They will then hear the momentous news of ‘Victory in Europe’ and celebrate the end of the fighting together.
Our sessions:
Read our blog post about why we think drama is such an important tool for exploring the history curriculum.
Alternatively, book our Second World War workshop for a deeper dive into the topic. This workshop can only be booked as an alternative to the assembly and not as an accompaniment.
The children came out of the session buzzing. It was interactive and had all of the children engaged. They were even re-enacting some of the activities during their playtime.
