The Quest for… Antarctica

Subject: Geography, History

Age Group: KS1

Region: London/Greater London

Pull on your woolly hats, gloves, and scarves, as our intrepid Earth Explorer welcomes you to our NEW KS1 Antarctica workshop!

First, you’ll prepare yourself (both mentally and physically!) to battle the elements, before encountering remarkable wildlife, and investigating the Antarctic habitat.

The session is adaptable for your topic focus:

  • If your focus is exciting explorers, then you will travel even further… not through space, but through time! Back to 1911 to meet the explorers charting their way across the Antarctic. Learn about ‘The Great Race’ to the South Pole, meet Robert Falcon Scott himself, and join his team!
  • If your focus is cool climate, work together to model rising sea levels, explore the threats facing the fragile Antarctic landscape, and discover why it’s so vital to protect it.

In this hands-on, drama-focused KS1 Antarctica workshop, you will discover what it truly means to be an explorer (and maybe waddle with a Penguin or two!).

Children of all abilities and experiences were totally engaged in the whole session. Some children took the session into their play later in the day. Information given prompted questions like ‘Please can we learn about….?’
